Sarah Gatewood is a Pensacola native who has built a distinguished career in strategic communications while remaining deeply rooted in the community. As Senior Communications Manager at Florida Power & Light, she brings corporate communications expertise, stakeholder engagement experience, and a commitment to clear, mission-driven messaging to the Community Health Northwest Florida Foundation.
A Florida State University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Political Science, Sarah has always understood that words matter and that how an organization communicates shapes public trust. She has honed those instincts at scale at FPL, managing communications in a high-stakes, highly regulated environment that touches millions of Floridians. That background is a genuine asset for a growing foundation working to build visibility, donor relationships, and community confidence in its work.
Sarah’s civic engagement extends well beyond her professional life. She is a board member of Gulf Coast Kid’s House, which serves child victims of abuse and neglect in the region — a cause that reflects her commitment to protecting vulnerable community members. She volunteers as a reading mentor with ReadingPals, helping young children develop foundational literacy skills. She is an active member of the Florida Public Relations Association and is a graduate of both Leadership Pensacola (Class of 2024) and Leadership Florida’s Connect Class VIII, where she also serves as a volunteer in the Northwest Florida region. Through those programs, she has built relationships and developed a regional and statewide perspective on the challenges facing communities like Pensacola.
At home, Sarah describes herself — proudly — as a full-time kids’ sports mom. When she’s not at a ball field, she loves reading, cooking and baking, and traveling with friends and family. That grounded, community-first sensibility is exactly what she brings to the Foundation board.
