Dr. George Smith retiring after more than 30 years with Community Health Northwest Florida

After more than 30 years with Community Health Northwest Florida and touching countless lives throughout the greater Pensacola area, Dr. George Smith is retiring.

Join us from 4 to 6 p.m. May 9 as we celebrate Dr. Smith at our home campus at 2315 West Jackson Street, in the first-floor reception area and education room.

Dr. Smith has been with Community Health Northwest Florida since 1994, when the organization was known as Escambia Community Clinics. In addition to his work as Physicians Liaison Officer at Community Health, Dr. Smith serves on the Florida State University College of Medicine Community Board for the Pensacola Regional Campus, and is past president of the Northwest Florida area Health Education Center Board.

“Caring for my patients has been the most rewarding part of my 31-year career at Community Health Northwest Florida,” Dr. Smith says. “It has been an extremely enjoyable experience to help Community Health grow into the becoming among the best and most respected health clinics in the country.”

Dr. Smith earned his MBBS Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, graduating with honors in Community Health. He did his internship and worked in ambulatory care at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas, and his residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He is board-certified and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

In 2006 Dr. Smith was chosen Florida Family Physician of the Year by the Florida Academy of Family Physicians. Prior to joining Community Health Northwest Florida, Dr. Smith served as a Captain at the 49th Fighter Hospital at Holloman Air Force Base in Otero County, New Mexico, near White Sands National Park.
